Hi my friends,

It is hard to believe that one year ago this week I became paralyzed and my new journey of Blu on Wheels began. Before I got hurt, I was a happy, healthy dog that enjoy running around playing with my brother and sisters. Chasing the cats and cuddling on my mom's lap on the couch. But all that changed in an instant when I ruptured a disk in my back and couldn't walk anymore. But, I am still a happy Blu!!!

Today, I just want to say thank you to everyone for supporting me this year. I couldn't have done it without your prayers and support and advice. I may never walk again on my own, but that is okay because I am alive and happy and healthy and blessed with family and friends that love me.

Today, I thought I would just finish my post with some pictures from the new journey I started last year. I hope you enjoy them.

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a very nice holiday season. Ours was quiet but nice, we pups got some nice toys to play with for Christmas! Mom got the week off and it was really great to cuddle with her every morning and than in the evening. In case you didn't see it, here is the Christmas card me mom sent out this year. She did something really special. Mom featured us pets instead of humans. I was really happy that mom did that for us. Here it is and I hope you like it.

It's the Dudley Zoo featuring Freckles, me on top of the couch and Dipstick and Midget. Than there is Tux our cat and Sunny. Just so that you don't worry, this picture was taken before I hurt my back. I cannot go on top of the couch any more. So here is a picture of me in my usually spot on the couch.

I am doing okay these days, I did have a Urinary Tract Infection that the vets caught early on and was on medication for 2 weeks. They now want me tested every 4 months to make sure that I am doing okay. The other pups have had some issues and that is kind of like why I haven't updated me blog in a long time. Between me mom working a lot of hours and than taking the other pups to the vets we haven't had much time to update me blog.

So, what has been up with the other pups. Well, first Freckles hurt her back in the fall, and had to have an MRI done to see if she had a ruptured disk. Fortunately, she did not and it was in the lower part of the spine that was hurt than my injury was. It impacted her hips more than anything. So, she was on medications and is off the couch. Even though she does try to get on it sometimes, but mom has somewhat trained the other humans in the family to keep her off the couch or at least help her get down.

Now for Dipstick and Midget, they seem to be having older dog problems. They thought Dipstick had Cushings Disease but he didn't thank goodness. Midget's liver values were higher than normal so she is on medication for that. Mom finds it hard to believe that they will be 14 years old this year. It scares her also. But, they don't act like they are that old except that Dipstick is hard of hearing (except when it is food time).

Here's a picture of Dipstick and Midget on the couch. Dipstick thinks he owns the neighborhood so he keeps watch for any humans or other dogs walking by our house. Midget, well she is just looking pretty. :-)
Do you see the blue bowl by Midget, well that is my food dish and after every meal Dipstick takes it into the living room and puts it on the couch. He is a very silly big brother!!!

The pups continue to keep me company and we all enjoy being near mom when she is on the computer. . Here is a picture of us keeping mom company:

BLU'S BATH DAY

Hi everyone and Happy Sunday!

Sorry that I haven't been around much, but my Mom has been kind of busy with work and all to help me write a blog. But to my surprise today she decided to take a break and tell you all about my bath day. I wanted another subject like "See Blu chase Chris for a treat", but I lost. :-) She thought it would be fun for everyone to see pictures of me wet and soapy. Mom might have thought it was fun, but nope not me, I no like getting a bath. Anyways, we all survived and the best part was the humans got as wet as I did. Payback is sooo sweet!!! :-) I hope you enjoy the photo story.

In September, after a long hot summer, Mom finally had some time off from work, Chris was home, it was a Blue moon weekend, so Mom said it was time to give me a bath!! Chris said he would help, and I had no vote in the manner. Not fair. They even went out and bought me a bath tub to put in the bath tub and a sprayer.

Come to find out it is actually the largest cat litter box Mom could find. Them humans have no respect!!!

So, they joyfully filled up my bathtub with nice soapy water and put me in there against my will of course.

If this is a bath, where is the rubber ducky?

Not only did I not have a toy to play with, but the kitty cat Tux was in the bathroom also watching the whole show. I could tell that he was really enjoying watching the humans give me a bath. I really think he was laughing. But, here comes the fun part. What was he laughing at? Me or the fact that the humans forgot that a cat litter box has no plug, so there was no way for them to drain out the soapy water and rinse off the soapy me. HAHA humans think they are so smart. Whoo Hooo!!! Now it is my time to laugh!!!
Mom has to get into the tub and hold me while Chris rinses me and Mom off. Now Chris is smiling with glee, Tux is laughing and me mom is well what can I say going to get wet!! I actually enjoyed this part of the bath. :-)

Okay, enough is enough can you please dry me off so that I can go get the treats you humans promised me after this bath.

Finally dried off and of course they had to brush me. Treat time.

                                    Nine months after having my back surgery my fur is all grown back.

Well, that's my fun story of bath day, and I hope you enjoyed it. Mom is again talking about giving me another bath before winter sets in. But, at least she said this time it will be me and Freckles getting a bath.   So, Freckles and I are already plotting out how we can get the humans really wet and also Tux the cat.   :-)

I also wanted to give you all an update on how my sister Freckles is doing. As you may or may not know, Freckles ruptured a disk in the lower part of her back in September. The rupture was luckily in a disk lower than the one that ruptured on me and fortunately she showed no signs of not being able to walk. But, she was in a lot of pain. After having an MRI done, our vet said he didn't want to operate. He felt "doggy bed rest:" and medication was the first thing to do to see if she recovered. Otherwise, he would have to operate. The good news is she RECOVERED without surgery. Whoo Hooo, I am so happy she is okay again. Freckles is happy also. The humans are still making sure that she is taking it easy and all.

Oh, one more thing before I go. I want to introduce you to the latest member of the Dudley Zoo.....

Meet Sunny, a 4 month old Parrolet. Chris is trying to get him to go on his finger, but Sunny likes to bite his finger instead. Us pups are enjoying the show.

The Merry Month of May

Hi Everyone!!!
Sorry that I haven't posted anything in a while but me mom has been tooo busy working long hours to help me type out a new post. But, she finally took some time off from work to do somethings including extra cuddling time with me and the other pups. It has been so nice the past 4 mornings having her spend more time cuddling with us. Yesterday we even let her sleep until 5:30am, boy was she happy!!!! But, today we got her up at 4:30am we didn't want to spoil her tooo much. LOL She didn't mind, she just drank lots of coffee.
It is hard to believe that it is the end of May. I turned 6 years old this month on May 11th. We had a quiet celebration and it was nice. Considering what has happened to me this year, I am just happy to be alive. I still have no feelings in me back legs and the vets are not sure if I ever will. Only time will tell if I will ever walk again. But, I love my cart and being with my brother and sisters. I am getting stronger and almost beat me human brother Chris to the kitchen one day for treats. It made me mom and Chris laugh!!! Me mom also setup a small pad for me so that I can be with her when she is on the computer. We both like that. I usually have one of my sisters with me also. Well me paws are getting tired so it is time for some pictures. I hope you like them.

For me birthday, me mom had to embarrass me by finding puppy pictures of me. Thanks MOM!!!!! Here they are:

Hi,
I just want to wish all my furry and human family and friends a very Happy Easter!! I also want to thank you for all the support and prayers that you have been sending me while I try to regain the use of me legs. Your messages of support and the power of the paw makes me keep going. Me and me mom and Chris hope someday that I will walk again, but the most important thing that me mom says is that I am still alive. Life is great especially when you have a family and friends that love you and support you no matter what.

Blu On Wheels Outside Today

Whooo Hoooo!!!! I finally went outside with me new wheels. Me mom was working from home today and at lunch she took me outside. It was a beautiful day to be outside. I was sooo happy to get some fresh air. Mom kept the other pups inside so that I could be just with her. I got to walk up the road a little bit and than around the yard. Mom didn't want me out tooo long because it was warm and she didn't want me to get tooo tired out. She promises next time I will be out longer.

A Tribute To Blackie

A Post From Blu's Mom
As some of you might already know on January 31, 2012 we lost a very special member of our pet family. Her name was Blackie. Otherwise know to us as Queen Blackie, or Wacky Blackie, or our One Grand Cat. But really she was a Queen and she held that title with grace until the day she went to the Rainbow Bridge.

Blackie was 14 1/2 years old when she suddenly feel ill and died. I guess in a way it was God's way of not allowing a very special cat suffer for too long. Because you see after she became ill we found out that she had cancerous tumors in her abdomen and stomach.   We never knew that she had them because she never let on that she was that sick. We thought we would have to make the decision for when to say goodbye to Blackie, but again God in his own way did it for us.   The vets allowed us to take Blackie home, and she died peacefully in Chris' arms about an hour after she came home. It was a fitting ending because Blackie was Chris' cat, and they always had a special bond. We all miss her a lot, but we have 14 years of very special memories of her that we will keep in our hearts forever. Today as a tribute to our special Blackie I would like to share some of this memories and pictures with you all.

Blackie was born in July of 1997 to my niece's cat named Lucky.   What is amazing is that we had found a little kitten in June and named him Lucky. Some of you might know our beloved cat Lucky from Facebook.
When we first saw Blackie, Chris fell in love with her and she came into our lives in October of 1997.

Her and Lucky became best buddies and you would always find them together someplace in the house. Here are some pictures of the Blackie and Lucky together.

New Coat To Go With Me Wheels

Happy Sunday Everyone and Happy March. The first day of Spring is only 16 days away!!! The days are getting longer and I am getting better!! Still no feelin in me back legs, but I am doing great in my cart. I just love racing around the house with me brother and sisters. Mom has even setup a cushion by her desk so that I can be near her when she is working or playing on the computer.
I am so glad that me mom got me a cart and that Eddie's Wheels did such a great job making it!!! Here is the official picture from Eddie's Wheels on the day I got my cart:

It was the happiest day for me and me human family since I got hurt!!!

The other great event that happened in February was that we pups all got coats to wear outside. Now all I need are boots and a license and I am ready to wheel around town!!!! Just kiddin about the license, but the boots I need to protect me feet. I just want a license with me name on it. Me mom says she is going to get that for me soon!!! I want to thank me special friends Addie, Lucie and Hailey for getting me my coat!!! I love it and it looks great on me! It was so kind of you to buy me this so that I could go outside and get more exercise and help me get better! Thank you also to Sam for letting me know where to get me license and me boots. Sam has been giving me and me mom lots of advice and we appreciate it a lot. We appreciate all the support you all have been giving me. The power of the paw will get me better, I just know it!!!

Next week I am going to let me mom do me Blog because of a very sad event that happen to our family the end of January. On January 31st, our Queen of the Dudley pets, Blackie went to the Rainbow Bridge. It was very very sudden that she became ill and died. She was 14 1/2 years old and we all miss her a lot. We are still trying to get over her passing away.
Me mom wants to do a special tribute to her next week and I said it was okay. But to honor her today here is a picture of Blackie. God Bless you Blackie and I hope your are running and playing with Lucky at the Rainbow Bridge. Love always, Blu

Happy Sunday Everybody!!!! I have good news to report, I finally got my wheels!
Whooo Hoooo does it feel good again to be able to get around. Of course, I still have to get used to not bumping into things. Or mom has to rearrange the house so I have no objects in my way. LOL I don't think that will happen. The humans are still getting used to putting me in the cart, and my step brother and sisters are also trying to get used to it. HEHE if I want to I can go faster than the other dogs. In time we all will get used to my cart. I just love it. Now to get a license plate for it. I also need to get a coat so that I can go outside with it.. Oh, it is so nice to roll around again.
The humans, Mom and Chris, and I went up yesterday to Eddie's Wheels to go get my cart. I was soooo excited that I couldn't relax in the carrier. When we got there Leslie brought out my cart and showed Chris how to put me in it. Not sure where my mom was, but she got back in time to take pictures and watch me take my first steps with wheels.. Whoo Hoo it was so nice to walk again. I haven't walked since January 9th and I didn't want to stop. Leslie said we could go outside and I would have more room to run. So, we did. I was lucky that the weather was just warm enough to me to be outside without a coat. They had a nice deck and a great ramp that I went down on. It was great, I was almost running. I walked around outside for a bit than we had to go back in so mom could pay and I could get some water and treats. I didn't stop moving until they took the cart off for when we had to go home. We thanked Leslie so much for the great cart and left for home. I slept all the way home. I was really tired out. Mom put me in the cart a couple of time again for lunch and supper and I even took a nap in it. I now feel like a dog again.

Umm, this is suppose to be a video of me coming up the ramp. I hope it works and you can see it. I am still getting used to blogging. Mom says we need a video camera so our voices can also be heard. She just wants a new toy. :-)

Well my friends that is it for today. I have to go now but I promise to have more pictures next weekend. Mom will be putting me in me wheels soon for lunch and also get some exercise. We are all hoping that the wheels help me out with my recovery. And hopefully, someday I might have more use of my legs. But, one day at a time. Just having the fun of walking around again is a healing feeling for me.

My Trip to Eddie's Wheels For Pets

Happy Monday everybody!!!
Sorry that I didn't post anything yesterday, but I was too tired and sore from my trip to Eddie's Wheels to order my cart. I was so excited about being there that I wore myself out and yesterday I just slept the day away. Of course I sleep most days aways anyways, but yesterday I was also sore. I better today.
I had a really nice visit to Eddie's Wheels For Pets on Saturday. It was a long ride, but I slept most of the way. They even had snow there which was nice to see. I even got to meet a border collie and a great big collie that were getting their wheels. I got to watch them getting used to their new carts. I was so excited and couldn't wait until it was my turn. Leslie the owner was really nice to me and my mom and Chris. I stood really still while she took measurements of me. That made my mom really happy. Chris took some pictures. Unfortunately, she didn't have a cart for me in stock, so I have to wait 2 weeks to have my very one made. I wanted it motorized, but my mom said no. HEHE I tried.

Sorry for the skin shot, but that is where I was shaved to have my surgery. I guess it takes a while for the fur to grow back. Mom is gonna get me a doggie coat for when we go for walks outside, and boots.

After I got measured, my mom talk to Leslie for a bit about the disc disease I got and how the cart will even help with trying to walk again. She had a doxie named Daisy that was paralyzed also from the disc disease, and the cart helped her out a lot. She also recommended a supplement for all us doxies to take and to also try acupuncture. So, we ordered the cart and we have to come back in 2 weeks to get it. Whoo Hoo, I can't wait!!!! Just in case you want to visit their website, here it is: http://eddieswheels.com/

Welcome to Blu's New Blog

Hi, My name is Blu and I thought I would try doing some blogging while healing from a back injury. I am new at this so I hope I do it right. I am a 6 year old dachshund and I live with 3 other doxie's and 2 cats and of course my human Mom and Dad and their son Chris. I like to eat and sleep, and until I got hurt chase the cats. But, a couple of weeks ago I hurt my back, and had to have surgery. For now, I can't walk but someday I hope to. I have to take it easy for a while and my mom says she is going to get me a cart with wheels to help me walk and get around the house and also go outside again. I can chase the cats again also. HEHE.. Just kidding. That is why I am calling my blog "Blu on Wheels" .

In time, with physical therapy I hope to run again. But, while I am on this journey to walking and running on my own I hope to post my progress and have pictures also. Please join me on my journey to walking again.
